Military justice and a poor one at that!

The goverment of Somaliland recently sentenced 17 civilinat to death , while sentencing five others to live in prison. The defendents attacked a military outpost in  Gacan Libaah district in Hargeisa, Somaliland, claiming the ownership of the land in which the militry outpost was located.

The sentences were meted out to defendents one day after the attack, and they are the first of their kind in Somali history.

It is highly unlikely that the sentences will be consummated with the 17 defendent taken to the Badhka to be shot. It is only an attempt by the goverment to discourage such acts by its citizens in the future. Nonetheless, the sentences could further increase the instablity in the district.
